Rabat — As the ongoing Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) genocide in Gaza marks its one-year anniversary, the humanitarian situation has reached catastrophic levels, according to Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

The relentless military operations and severe blockade by Israel have obliterated Gaza’s already fragile healthcare system, forcing countless individuals into overcrowded and desperate living conditions.

Since October 7, 2023, the devastating IOF war on Gaza has killed over 41,500 lives, injured around 96,000, and displaced approximately 1.9 million people. The violence has rippled beyond Gaza, escalating tensions in the West Bank, Lebanon, and beyond.

“This year has been marked by relentless horror and violence against civilians, with no relief in sight,” stated Avril Benoît, CEO of MSF USA.

In Gaza, medical professionals are grappling with a surge in war-related injuries, infectious diseases, malnutrition, and severe psychological trauma.

MSF teams report daily cases of bomb-related injuries, including extensive burns and amputations, necessitating intensive care that the current conditions cannot support. Since the conflict escalated, MSF has treated over 27,500 patients with injuries linked to military actions.

“Surgeries are being performed without anesthesia, and we have witnessed children dying on hospital floors due to a lack of resources,” said Amber Alayyan, MSF’s medical program manager.

The healthcare infrastructure has been systematically dismantled amid IOF ongoing massacre, with only 17 out of 36 hospitals partially operational.

According to MSF, the dire medical needs are exacerbated by a severe shortage of humanitarian supplies. Access to aid remains precarious due to the unpredictable nature of IOF clearance processes, coupled with ongoing violence and looting.

Chris Lockyear, MSF’s secretary general, criticized the international community’s inaction, particularly highlighting the complicity of Israel’s allies, including the United States, in perpetuating the genocide.

“For one year, military support continues while civilians suffer immensely,” Lockyear said, emphasizing that a sustained ceasefire is essential to prevent further loss of life.
