Rabat, January 25, 2012 (MAP)

American poetess Marilyn Hacker won the international Argana poetry award 2011, granted by Morocco’s Bayt Achiir (House of Poetry).

The award was created in 2002 as a sign of poetic friendship from Moroccan poets to one of their fellow poets around the world.

Bayt Achiir said, in a statement, it was keen to explore, by granting the award to Hacker, new horizons and establish openness to other poetry experiences in today’s world.

Born in 1942, Hacker is a professor of French literature at the City University of New York. She has authored “Presentation Piece” (1974), “Separations” (1976), “Winter Numbers” (1994), “La Différence” (2004) and “Essays on Departure” (2006).
