Aziz Akhannouch announced, on Sunday, that he had resigned from the National Rally of the Independents (RNI), which opted for the opposition following the general election of November 25.
“After four years of activity within the National Rally of the Independents, I tendered my resignation from the party,” he said in a statement.
The outgoing Agriculture and Fisheries Minister said he would join no other political party.
The RNI had come third in the legislative elections with 52 seats.
Sources close to the PJD told Morocco World News that Akhannouch might be appointed either Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries or be entrusted with another portfolio in the new government whose final list is expected to be announced on Monday.
In the list that was submitted last week by Abdelilah Benkirane for approval by King Mohammed VI, the proposed candidate for this portfolio was Fouad Douiri from the Istiqlal Party.
