Rabat – China, Saudi Arabia, and Iran have jointly demanded an “immediate cessation of military operations in Gaza,” signaling their shared commitment to regional and global peace.

The call comes on the heels of the recently brokered Beijing Agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran, emphasizing the urgent need to halt hostilities and rejecting any attempts to forcibly displaced Palestinians from their ancestral lands.

This united front underscores the three nations’ unwavering emphasis on the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people. The core tenet of their joint stance asserts that any future arrangements concerning Palestine must directly reflect the will of the Palestinian people.

Crucially, these nations stand united in supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, allowing them the agency to shape their own destiny.

Against the distressing backdrop of Israel’s relentless bombing campaign in Gaza, which has claimed the lives of over 18,200 Palestinians, including a significant number of children, and left more than 51,000 injured, the international community’s plea for immediate action has grown louder.

As the humanitarian crisis deepens, exacerbated by fuel shortages resulting from Israel’s restrictions on supplies entering the Strip, the three nations highlighted the dire circumstances faced by the people in Gaza. They stressed the pressing need for sustainable relief efforts to address the pressing issues on the ground.

The urgency of the situation prompted the UN General Assembly to convene on Tuesday, December 12, in an Emergency Special Session. The session concluded with the adoption of a resolution demanding an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire,” the unconditional release of hostages, and the resumption of humanitarian convoys to the war-torn enclave.

A sweeping majority of 153 member states supported the resolution, reflecting the global urgency and concern for the dire humanitarian situation unfolding in the region.
