Rabat – The ninth year of the Awareness Campaign for Road Safety launched on Thursday, in time for the return of Moroccans living abroad for summer holidays, and in anticipation of the upcoming Eid Al-Adha celebrations.

The campaign is organized by the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) and Vivo Energy-Maroc, and will continue over the next four days.

Volunteers involved in the campaign engage in conversations with drivers traveling along the Moroccan highways at break stations to remind them about traffic laws, safety procedures, and the importance of adhering to the rules.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic which is still affecting Morocco, the volunteers also attempt to remind travelers of hygiene and health precautions and the importance of following them, according to media sources that observed the campaign.

Travelers meeting volunteers receive a bag with brochures detailing important laws and the importance of respecting them, as well as drawings and booklets for young children.

In addition to providing information on protecting children in the car, the brochures contain booklets for children that discuss how to stay safe while walking on the street.

With the ongoing summer holidays, upcoming Eid Al-Adha celebrations, and Moroccans coming back from abroad, traffic activity on Morocco’s roads is expected to rise dramatically.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Transport, Logistics, and Water introduced a new control center to monitor roads and respond to emergencies, hoping to ensure maximum safety for travelers.
