Rabat – Despite no longer competing for the AFCON trophy, football fever gripped the Felix Houphouet Boigny stadium, which brought together DR Congo and South Africa for the third-place game.

The game was a spectacle of skill and determination, with both teams displaying all they had on the pitch in pursuit of victory.

Both teams were unable to score any goals throughout the regular time of the game, prompting a penalty shootout to determine the outcome.

South Africa mesmerized its fans by taking the lead in the match through successful penalty shootouts. South Africa scored six goals during the penalty shootout, while DR Congo scored five.

Today marked the end of both teams’  journey in AFCON, with South Africa finishing as the third-best team in the tournament.

South Africa ended up competing for third place after suffering a defeat against Nigeria in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, DR Congo played against Cote d’Ivoire, with the host country ending the game with a dramatic 1-0 win.

AFCON kicked off on January 13 with a thrilling and surprising start.

Several underdog teams, previously not considered favorites, advanced to the later stages of the tournament. Powerhouses such as Morocco, Egypt, Ghana, and Tunisia, were eliminated, leaving fans shocked.

After a month of nail-biting, excitement, and surprises, it is Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire that are competing for the trophy.

The game will take place tomorrow at 9 p.m.
