The event is part of a joint initiative by AUI and MWN to highlight the importance of networking for both students seeking employment and companies hunting for talent and workforce diversity.
Why network?
Several reports have highlighted the importance of networking and its contribution to building relationships between professionals and students, as well as gaining personal referrals and insights into their industry.
A group of international universities and magazines have in recent years shed light on the importance of networking for both students and businesses.
One report from University Canada West emphasized the importance of networking, describing it as a tool that can provide students with “valuable insights into industry trends, as well as challenges.”
“When a student has a personal connection with a potential employer, it can increase their chances of getting hired,” the report added, stressing that a recommendation from a company can “carry more weight than a cold application, giving students a competitive advantage.”
Networking is also important for businesses, according to Forbes, which described it as a tool that can help companies set up a base “for a successful business.”
The magazine emphasized that networking could help organizations build a strong reputation and attract new contacts.
“It’s one of the most powerful ways of creating credibility for yourself and your business, which in turn helps build trust.”
Connecting with Gen-Z
The Rabat Networking Days will include a list of students as part of the Gen-Z generation, currently the second-youngest generation.
Roberta Katz, a senior research scholar at Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, described Gen Z, also known as iGen, or postmillennial as a “highly collaborative cohort,”who are “self-reliant” and “pragmatic.”
Forbes shed light on this generation and their motivational plans, especially business-wise.
Sharing insights from surveys and reports, the magazine identified Gen-Z as a generation that “brings creativity and a fresh perspective to the table – a table that now has open seats for those embracing this new world of work.”
The trust placed in the skills of the new generation is underscored not only in reports but is also echoed by many, including a recent speech by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI.
In his speech marking Throne Day celebrations in July this year, the King praised the seriousness of the Moroccan youth and praised them for contributing to fields requiring creative and innovative genius.
“Whenever the conditions are right, and each time they commit to the seriousness and to the spirit of patriotism, Moroccan youth always manage to dazzle the world with great, unprecedented accomplishments, and the feat of our national football team in the last World Cup is a case in point,” the monarch said.
Citing innovative projects by Moroccan youth, he emphasized that such achievements encourage the country’s youth to “work harder and be innovative.”
