Morocco’s newly appointed Head of Government, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, has reached an agreement to form a government majority comprising four political parties: the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), the Istiqlal Party, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), and the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS)

Morocco’s newly appointed Head of Government, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, has reached an agreement to form a government majority comprising four political parties: the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), the Istiqlal Party, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), and the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), according to a statement issued today.

El Mansouri, who was appointed by King Mohammed VI following the September 23 legislative elections, held two rounds of political consultations with several parties represented in Parliament before reaching the agreement.

A joint statement from the four political parties announced the news, stating that the decision came following the appointment by King Mohammed VI, El Mansouri, National Coordinator of PAM, as Morocco’s Head of Government.

The monarch appointed El Mansouri after PAM won 97 seats in the elections of September 23.

Following the appointment, El Mansouri began holding extensive political consultations with several parties represented in Parliament.

“These consultations addressed the various challenges and constraints facing the country, with the aim of forming a strong and cohesive political majority that understands the scale of the complex domestic challenges and multiple external constraints, and is capable of effectively responding to citizens’ expectations by ensuring decent living conditions, strengthening freedoms and rights, achieving social justice and territorial equity, and promoting economic prosperity,” the statement reads.

Two rounds of political consultations led by El Mansouri took place.

The statement said El Mansouri took into account the country’s supreme interests, the national and international context, and the popular will expressed in the legislative elections.

“The elections resulted in the appointment of a woman as Head of Government for the first time, marking an unprecedented historic event in Morocco’s democratic process with strong symbolic significance,” the statement added.

Now, the four political parties forming the new government majority will propose candidates for ministerial positions, pledging that the candidates that will assume the new duties will possess “the necessary competence, political acumen, integrity, and honesty.”

They also pledged to form a “cohesive and strong government capable of implementing the provisions of the government program, which will be prepared as soon as possible.”
