Meknes – After a spectacular opening game in the 2021 FIFA Arab World Cup in Qatar, Morocco’s A’ national football team has confirmed its title aspirations by dismissing Jordan today 4-0 at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Ar-Rayyan.

Coming into the game after their coach, Lhoussine Ammouta, spoke of his team’s ambition to “go as far as possible in this competition,” the Moroccan team quickly overwhelmed the Jordanians to secure its second victory and announce itself in the process as one of the teams to watch — and perhaps fear — in the tournament.

For today’s game, Ammouta chose to start with a 4-3-2 lineup. The defensive line consisted of Mohammed Nahiri, Soufiane Bouftini, Badr Benoun, and Mohamed Chibi.

For the midfield, Ammouta picked up Abdellah Hafidi, Yahya Jabran, and Walid El Karti. The attack included Achraf Bencharki, Ismail El Haddad, and Oualid Azaro at its heart. In goal was Anas Zniti.

Four minutes after the game kicked off, Jabrane scored the game’s first goal courtesy of an assist from Nahiri.

Morocco then proceeded to suffocate Jordan, putting enormous pressure on the Jordanian defensive line and overrunning its midfield to dictate the tempo of the game for the whole first half. Badr Benoun scored the second Moroccan goal at the 24th minute, at which point Jordan was only evidently playing for damage limitation.

The Atlas Lions kept the same performance they showed during their first match against Palestine on December 1, constantly causing panic in the organization of their opponents as they searched for more goals to kill the game.

The Moroccan team’s suffocating domination paid off again at the 25th minute, with Chibi scoring the third goal for the Atlas Lions.

The second half started with a fairly more balanced game between the two teams, but the recurrent attacks from the Jordanians proved ultimately unable to reach Zniti’s net.

Coming on as a substitute in the closing stages of the match, Soufiane Rahimi scored the fourth goal for the Moroccan national team at the 88th minute.

With another impressive display and second morale-boosting clean sheet,  Moroccan Atlas Lions will face the Saudi Arabian team on December 7.
