Rabat – The sales of new cars in Morocco totaled over 130 units in the first ten months of this year, dropping by 2.83% in the same period in 2022, the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM) has said.
By segment, the number of new registrations of passenger cars (PCs) stood at 117,410 units, down by 1.33%, while those of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) fell by 14.7% to 12,804 units, the same source indicated.
As of October 2023, the Dacia brand dominated the LCV segment, with a market share of 23.35%, or 27,416 units sold, followed by Renault, which sold 18,810 units (16.02% market share) and Hyundai (12,686 units and 10.80% market share).
In the LCV segment, Renault sold 2,949 units (23.03% market share), ahead of DFSK which sold 1,962 vehicles (15.32% market share) and Ford (1,655 units and 12.93% market share).
On the premium side, Audi’s sales climbed by 13% to 3,599 vehicles, giving it a 3.07% market share. This puts it ahead of BMW (2,782 units and a market share of 2.37%) and Mercedes-Benz (2,147 units and a market share of 1.83%).
Porsche, on the other hand, sold 351 units, up 28.1%, while Jaguar sales fell by 14.66% to 99 cars.
For October alone, AIVAM reported a 2.22% drop in overall sales to 12,805 units.
More specifically, the PC and LCV segments recorded declines of 0.08% and 16.49% respectively, to 11,286 and 1,519 units sold.
