Rabat – US President Joe Biden continues to support Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza which has been targeting civilians – including at hospitals and shelters.
Asked about Israel’s latest raid against Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza, Biden claimed that the Israeli operation was not a “raid.”
“This is not carpet bombing. This is a different thing. They’re going through these tunnels; they’re going in the hospital,” Biden claimed, adding that Israel had “given the doctors — I’m told — the doctors and nurses and personnel an opportunity to get out of harm’s way.”
Biden’s claims came as Israeli occupation forces have been renewing their attack on the Al Shifa Hospital, with tanks and bulldozers advancing into the health facility.
Al Jazeera said that Israeli bulldozers and vehicles completely destroyed the southern entrance to the medical complex.
The storming of the hospital sparked another wave of condemnatory remarks from many countries, including Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Foreign Affairs Ministry “strongly” condemned the storming, stressing the need to “activate international accountability mechanisms regarding these ongoing violations and brutal and inhumane practices by the Israeli occupation forces, against children, women, civilians, health facilities and relief teams.”
In addition to backing the storming of the health facility, Biden also reiterated the US’ rejection of a ceasefire, renewing claims that it would only benefit Hamas.
The US President acknowledged that Israel’s bombing and raids against hospitals, including Al-Shifa facility, also pose a risk against hostages held captive by Hamas.
“But one thing has been established is that Hamas does have headquarters, weapons, materiel below this hospital and, I suspect, others. But how long it’s going to last, I don’t know,” Biden added.
On Wednesday, the US Security Council adopted a resolution, excluding a ceasefire, while calling for humanitarian pauses to allow aid access to the war-torn region.
