King Mohammed VI has renewed his deep concern with the situation in Gaza, noting that the worsening situation in the Palestinian enclave requires moving beyond crisis management.
The monarch reiterated Morocco’s support for the Palestinian cause during his Throne Day speech commemorating the 25th anniversary of his ascension to the throne.
After addressing the water crisis that Morocco faces, the monarch stressed that Morocco’s own diplomatic challenges will not divert its efforts and focus from the tragedy of Palestinians.
The royal remarks come as Gaza continues to face a merciless campaign by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF).
Since its launch on October 7, the relentlessly murderous Israeli campaign has killed over 39,300 Palestinians and injured more than 90,000 others.
Tens of thousands are still missing, presumed dead under the rubble, according to converging reports by Palestinian authorities and human rights groups.
“The keen interest we take in the situation prevailing in the country does not mean we are oblivious of, or insensitive to, the tragedy befalling our Palestinian brothers and sisters,” the King said.
He stressed that the plight of Gazans requires global efforts to genuinely work towards a definitive solution to the conflict.
“If putting an end to the war in Gaza is an urgent priority, then this must be achieved concurrently with opening up political prospects conducive to a just and lasting peace in the region,” the monarch stressed.
He especially highlighted the need for negotiations to revive the peace process between Palestinian and Israeli parties, stressing that this requires cutting off the path for extremists – “from whatever side they may come.”.
Regional security and stability will only be fully ensured through the framework of the two-state solution, the monarch noted.
This should ensure that Gaza remains an integral part of the territories of an independent Palestinian state that will have East Jerusalem as its capital, he said.
The King also highlighted the humanitarian aid Morocco sent to Palestine amid IOF massacres.
“As Chairman of the al-Quds Committee, I managed to have an unprecedented route opened up, through which we delivered urgent food and medical aid to our brothers and sisters in Gaza,” the monarch remarked.
He further stressed that he will continue to back constructive initiatives aimed at finding practical solutions, achieving a tangible and permanent ceasefire to address the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Consistent position
Morocco has been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause for years, reflecting its unwavering commitment through various humanitarian initiatives, including sending aid to Gaza.
In June, King Mohammed VI ordered the delivery of humanitarian aid amid the ongoing Israeli Occupation Forces’ merciless campaign on civilians in the Palestinian enclave.
The convoy consisted of more than 40 tons of food items and essential supplies.
In March, the monarch issued a similar order, sending 40 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Morocco’s commitment to providing humanitarian aid to Palestine dates back to the mid-1990s.
Late King Hassan II initiated the support efforts in 1995, proposing an agency to aid the Palestinian people and institutions.
The commitment has continued under King Mohammed VI’s reign, who has consistently directed humanitarian assistance while repeatedly reiterating Morocco’s support for the Palestinian cause.
