Rabat – Algeria’s Muay Thai star Akram Hamidi is set to compete against former Thai world champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao at ONE Championship’s huge upcoming event ONE Friday Fights 81. Hamidi and Sam-A will face each other in a Strawweight MuayThai contest inside Bangkok’s iconic Lumpinee Stadium on Friday, September 27.
Hamidi last competed in the organization’s weekly fightseries on June 7 at ONE Friday Fights 66, picking up an impressive first-round technical knockout (TKO) win against Kongchai Chanaidonmueang.
The 25-year-old Algerian had opened his ONE account with a second-round TKO win against Jomhod, but then suffered a defeat at the hands of ONE Strawweight Muay Thai and Kickboxing world champion Prajanchai PK Saenchai.
With an overall professional record of 50-5, Hamidi knows that a win against an established star like the former Muay Thai and Kickboxing champion may convince ONE CEO and Chairman Chatri Sityodtong to hand him a lucrative contract.
Meanwhile, Sam-A is a 40-year-old Thai veteran who has competed in more than 400 bouts.
His ONE record stands at 6-3 though two of his three losses came against Prajanchai. The only other man to beat Sam-A is ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai and Kickboxing fighter Jonathan Haggerty.
Hamidi joins former ONE Flyweight Kickboxing world champion Ilias Ennahachi on the fight card as the Moroccan who will make his return to the martial arts organization against Japan’s Hiroki Akimoto in a Bantamweight bout.
ONE Championship had announced that the show’s main event will see Japan’s martial arts icon Takeru Segawa return to the ring to face Thailand’s Black Panther, who is riding a three-win-streak in a Flyweight Kickboxing fight.
ONE Friday Fights 81 kicks off at 1:30 p.m. (WET) on Friday, September 27. It will be broadcasted on ONE Championship’s website.
