Jnane Tamsna Hotel: Black-Owned and Michelin-Approved in Morocco

Marrakech – Tucked away in Marrakech’s Palmeraie district, Jnane Tamsna Hotel is turning heads in the global hospitality scene.

As the first Black-owned hotel in Morocco, Jnane Tamsna, which has a coveted spot in the Michelin Guide, secures its status as one of the world’s top accommodations.

Founded by Meryanne Loum-Martin, a Senegalese-Parisian lawyer turned designer, and her husband Gary Martin, an American ethnobotanist, Jnane Tamsna is a testament to vision and cultural authenticity.

Open for over two decades, this hotel has become a beacon of diversity and sustainability in luxury hospitality.

Nestled across five houses, Jnane Tamsna features 24 elegantly luxurious rooms, each with its own terrace.

Its design intertwines Moroccan tradition with African art, creating a timeless dialogue between past and present.

“The place is about a constant dialogue between the past and the present, between cultures, between outdoors and indoors,” stated Loum-Martin to the Michelin Guide.

Jnane Tamsna’s Michelin Guide endorsement speaks volumes about its exceptional quality.

Scoring an impressive 18.1 out of 20, the hotel shines with a stellar room quality rating of 19.5, public spaces at 19.0, and services at 16.9.

Guests are treated to a range of top-notch amenities, including swimming pools, tennis courts, and a variety of unique experiences such as cooking classes, calligraphy lessons, and even magic classes for kids.

Jnane Tamsna’s Diversity Excursions are a standout feature, offering guests immersive cultural tourism experiences with local historians, sociologists, architects, and musicians.

This dedication to authenticity and cultural engagement has drawn a star-studded roster of guests, including Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman, David Bowie, Iman, Giorgio Armani, and Donna Karan.

Loum-Martin envisions a future where luxury doesn’t just mean opulence but a deep, respectful integration of culture and sustainability.

She sees a world where high-end experiences are crafted with an authentic touch, blending luxurious comfort with a genuine appreciation of local traditions and environmental stewardship.

Her deep-rooted connection with Morocco, forged over three decades as both a resident and hotelier, is intricately woven into every aspect of the guest experience.

Jnane Tamsna embodies the true essence of Moroccan country life, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and vibrant spirit of the Marrakech region.

Each detail of the hotel pays homage to the traditions and lifestyle of Morocco, creating a unique and immersive experience that feels authentically local and deeply personal.
