Rabat – Morocco is celebrating positive indicators in terms of tourist arrivals during the 2024 summer season.

Minister of Tourism Fatim-Zahra Ammor said today that the tourism sector has been showing  strong results during this year’s summer season.

“Although we are still in the process of consolidating all indicators, preliminary data for the summer season of 2024 show a positive outcome,” the minister said.

Notably, July witnessed a good performance, welcoming 2.6 million tourists to Morocco.

The minister further noted that this performance represents a remarkable 20% increase compared to July 2023, with 424,000 entries.

The growth is attributed to both the arrivals of Moroccans living abroad and foreign tourists, she said.

Ammor also cited the good performances witnessed at the level of overnight stays by region.

According to the presented data, the Souss-Massa region recorded an 8% increase in overnight stays and a 4% increase in arrivals.

The North, including Tangier, Asilah, and M’diq-Fnideq, showed a 12% increase in overnight stays and an 11% increase in arrivals.

Marrakech also marked a 6% increase in overnight stays and an 8% increase in arrivals.

One of the destinations that also emerged strong this summer season is the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, which positioned itself as a favored spot for beach tourism and water sports.

The region marked a significant 32%increase in arrivals and a 5% increase in overnight stays.

Ammor acknowledged that the Oriental region fell short of expectations in July.

The situation partially improved in August, with a 5% increase in overnight stays and a 3% increase in arrivals compared to August of last year, Ammor noted.

“Beyond the mere numbers and statistics, these figures demonstrate the tangible impact of the tourism sector on the Moroccan economy, translating into job creation, regional development, and overall economic stimulation,” Ammor concluded, noting that the future prospects look promising.

The tourism sector is one of the key pillars of Morocco’s economy, contributing substantially to the country’s financial growth.

The sector injects billions of dollars into the country’s economy annually.

Last year, Morocco made a turnover of $10.5 billion. This year, Morocco aims to attract over 15 million tourists, with the country seeking to boost this  number to 17 million arrivals in 2026 and 26 million in 2030.
