Rabat – Morocco’s tourism revenue in foreign currency reached MAD 59.4 billion ($6.12 billion) during the first seven months this year, according to new data from the Ministry of Tourism.
On Thursday, Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor said in Rabat that the revenue reflects a growth of 3.5% compared to the same period last year.
This means that the revenues recorded an increase of MAD 2 billion, the government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas confirmed during a press conference on Thursday.
Ammor further emphasized that tourist arrivals reached 4.4 million people between July and August, marking a 21% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
The exceptional achievement resulted in a record 11.8 million tourist arrivals in the first eight months of this year– representing an increase of 1.6 million people compared to the end of August last year.
The numbers reflect the roadmap for 2023-2026 launched by the government in March last year, focusing on enhancing air connectivity as well as strengthening marketing efforts.
According to government data, the roadmap allowed for a 30% increase in air transport capacity compared to 2023.
Morocco aims to attract over 17.5 million tourists by 2026, and Ammor reassured in her Thursday’s comments that this goal is “closer than ever.”
Meanwhile, she also said in June that her ministry will continue to enrich its offerings, “particularly by diversifying entertainment activities, to achieve our target of 120 billion dirhams ($12 billion) by 2026.”
