Moroccan young talents Mariam Bouaoud and Fatima Kettani achieved success in the 9th Aqraa “reading” competition, organized by the King Abdulaziz International Center for Culture.

The center announced the results on Saturday in Saudi Arabia. Bouaoud won the Reader of the Year in the Arab World while  Kettani won the Promising Reader award.

The Moroccan talents were among  the 10 finalists from seven countries, including Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, and Morocco.

Tarik Al Khouaji, the cultural advisor of the center, said the competition serves as a platform for promoting reading as a means of intellectual enrichment for the rising generations.

The strong participation in this edition reflects the success of the competition and its contribution to the development of Arab talents in the fields of critical reading and creative writing, he said.

The competition seeks to develop and improve critical thinking and productivity skills among the youth through reading.

This is not the first time Moroccans  have made their mark on the international and national stages for effective and impassioned Arabic reading.

In July 2022, Ihssane Hadir won the 6th edtion of the Arab Reading Challenge in Morocco.

Moroccan Soufiane El Berrak won the Reader of the year award as part of the Ithra reading.
