Rabat – Morocco reaffirmed on Friday its strong and ongoing support for the Palestinian people during the International Day of Solidarity with Palestine, held in Addis Ababa at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

Speaking at the event, Morocco’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti, Nezha Alaoui M’hammdi, said the country is committed to establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

She added that true peace in the Middle East must guarantee the legitimate rights of Palestinians under the two-state solution framework, while condemning the tragic situation in Gaza.

The ambassador also noted the initiatives taken by Morocco under the guidance of King Mohammed VI, including sending humanitarian aid to Gaza.

She also referenced a message from the King to the President of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Cheikh Niang, in which the monarch called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza. The King’s message also demanded the protection of Palestinian civilians, the opening of humanitarian corridors, and the preservation of international law.

In addition, M’hammdi recalled the efforts of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency to carry out humanitarian aid operations and deliver food assistance to Gaza and Jerusalem’s Old City.

Meanwhile, Israeli aggression on Palestinians in Gaza continues, with daily attacks targeting camps and residential areas.

Israeli forces have killed at least 33 Palestinians and 137 injured in the past 24-reporting period across the Gaza Strip, according to the territory’s Health Ministry.

The death toll from the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza has reached over 44,360 deaths since October 7, 2023.
