Rabat — Atlas Lion Hakim Ziyech may be on his way to Egypt’s Al Ahly, according to reports from Qatar’s “Al-Kass” channel, but only on a one-month loan for the 2025 Club World Cup in the USA.
Al-Ahly is not the only club interested. French side Rennes and Wydad Casablanca are also in the mix. Rennes’ Jorge Sampaoli plans to move for Ziyech in the January transfer window. Meanwhile, Wydad hopes to land him for next summer’s Club World Cup in the United States.
Ziyech has fallen the pecking order at Galatasaray. Manager Okan Buruk has stopped picking him for the starting XI and Ziyech is itching for an opportunity elsewhere to rediscover his form.
The former Chelsea player featured in only 147 minutes for the Turkish outfit since the start of the season, finding the net on one occasion and providing one assist.
Before landing on loan in Galatasaray, the 31-year-old won the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League with Chelsea. However, he enjoyed the most successful period of his career during his time at Ajax, where he played a key role in the Dutch club’s run to the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League semi-finals, before they got knocked out by Tottenham.
The midfielder has made more than 350 club appearances so far, scoring over 90 goals and providing more than 110 assists. Ziyech was Eredivisie’s top assist provider for multiple seasons.
For Morocco, Ziyech has over 50 caps and is mostly remembered for his performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, helping Morocco become the first African team to reach the semifinals in history.
Hakim has an excellent passing range and vision and can distribute precise long balls and crosses. Even though his best years are behind him, his set-piece proficiency and ability to score long-range goals can bring quality to any squad.
