Rabat – Bouchra Karboubi has made history by winning the 2024 CAF Women Referee of the Year award, a significant achievement for women in African football officiating.

Karboubi, who was one of the referees selected for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), made headlines in January 2024 when she became the first woman from North Africa and the Arab world to officiate a men’s AFCON match.

She refereed the match between Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria, marking a milestone in the history of women’s representation in football officiating at the continental level.

Meanwhile, Doha El Madani has earned the prestigious title of CAF Women Young Player of the Year 2024.

The AS FAR forward has been in exceptional form, emerging as the top scorer at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League and helping her team reach the final.

Her standout performances throughout the competition earned her nominations for both Young Player and Inter-club Player of the Year.

El Madani has also represented Morocco at various youth levels, showcasing her talent with the under-17 and under-20 women’s national teams.

The two Moroccan women have set new standards in their respective fields, with Karboubi breaking barriers in refereeing and El Madani rising as one of the brightest young talents in African women’s football.
