Moroccan security services operating at the El Guerguerat border post, south of Morocco’s Dakhla thwarted today an international drug trafficking attempt and seized 37 kilograms and 683 grams of cocaine.
Sniffer dogs and border control operations enabled police to discover drug shipments carefully concealed in the engines of two international freight trucks with Moroccan license plates, coming from a sub-Saharan African country.

Police arrested two drivers aged 24 and 47 during the operation.
Police opened a preliminary investigation to determine the circumstances of the case and identify possible accomplices.
The operation is part of the country’s approach to tackling drug trafficking.
In a similar major drug bust, Morocco also seized 9.8 tons of cannabis and arrested six suspects aged between 29 and 59 on Tuesday.
The operation was in coordination between Safi police after they received precise intelligence from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
Last year, Morocco’s police handled 92,346 drug-related cases, arresting 119,692 individuals.
The number included 287 foreign nationals.
Police also seized 123 tons and 971 kilograms of cannabis in different operations, as well as 1.9 tons of cocaine, 16.5 kilograms of heroin in addition to over 1.4 million of psychotropic substances.
