Rabat – Moroccan footballer Hamza Koutoune has taken a big step in his career by joining French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.

The 18-year-old right-back, who is part of Morocco’s under-20 national team, arrives from the esteemed Mohammed VI Academy.

Florian Maurice, OGC Nice’s Sporting Director, described the transfer as a key move for the club.

“Hamza is now in his post-training phase with Nice,” Maurice announced.

The director also said that the player will integrate into the Elite Group, which focuses on developing emerging talents for the Côte d’Azur team.

The club spotlighted Koutoune’s versatility in its official announcement on its website.

“He can play as a right-back or a right-wing-back, depending on the tactical setup. Born in Casablanca, Hamza also stands out as an offensive weapon, offering accurate and effective crossing abilities.”

Meanwhile, the Atlas Lion shared his excitement about joining the French club. “I feel proud to sign with OGC Nice,” he said in the same statement.

“I notice how the club is willing to trust young players who prove themselves, even at the highest levels. The Mohammed VI Academy provided me with excellent training, and I am thrilled to join Nice with a hunger to grow further and succeed.”

Jean-Pierre Rivère, President of OGC Nice, noted the club’s confidence in its new recruit.

“Hamza has a promising athletic profile. He combines determination with a humble approach to the game. He will start with the Elite Group under Julien (Sablé) and gradually carve out his path with us. We warmly welcome him to Nice.”

Football journalist Fabrizio Romano also reported about the transfer, saying, “OGC Nice agreed on a deal to sign Morocco U20 right back Hamza Koutoune who reached the World Cup U17 quarter-final. Deal sealed for 2006 born RB from Mohamed VI Academy.”

As Koutoune begins his journey in French football, OGC Nice continues its strong performance in Ligue 1, holding sixth place with 27 points.

Joining alongside Koutoune in this journey is the 16 year-old-player Ethan Degny.
