Rabat — Morocco has exceeded its tourism target, reaching 17.4 million visitors by the end of 2024 – two years ahead of the 2026 goal.

Morocco’s Ministry of Tourism released the new data today, noting that the number represents a 20% increase compared to 2023 – amounting to nearly three million additional tourists.

The ministry attributed the positive development to foreign tourists, whose arrivals reached 8,8 million as well as Moroccans residing abroad, who accounted for 8.6 million arrivals.

The development also surpassed the numbers recorded in 2019 by a 35% increase.

Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor commented on the positive trend, stressing that this reflects the “considerable progress our country is experiencing” under King Mohammed VI’s leadership.

“This exceptional performance is the result of targeted investments by our government in this vital sector for our country’s economy, as well as the constant mobilization of industry professionals,” the minister said.

She also congratulated all public and private stakeholders who contributed to the success.

Morocco’s tourism sector has been one of the key pillars of its economy.

The ministry along with the Moroccan Tourism Office (ONMT) continues to pledge more efforts to revamp the sector through several initiatives launched to attract both tourists organically and through partnerships with travel agencies and airlines worldwide.

Morocco has long had a goal to achieve 17 million tourists by 2026. Achieving the target two years ahead of the set year is a positive indicator, reflecting the country’s ability to attract more million arrivals in the coming years.

Morocco’s objective for 2030 is to achieve 26 million tourists as the country is poised to upgrade its leadership by co-hosting the 2030 World Cup along with Spain and Portugal.
