Rabat – Morocco will face a sharp drop in temperatures this week, with freezing conditions expected from Tuesday to Friday across several regions, the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) announced.

Temperatures between -8°C and -2°C are expected in provinces such as Ifrane, Boulemane, Sefrou, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Khenifra, Al Haouz, Figuig, Chichaoua, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Midelt, and Taroudant.

Maximum temperatures in these areas will likely remain between 0°C and 6°C, as indicated in the DGM’s orange-level weather alert.

Other provinces, including Jerada, Taourirt, Guercif, Taza, Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Zagora, Errachidia, Tiznit, and Tata, will experience minimum temperatures ranging from -4°C to 1°C.

Daytime highs in these regions are forecast to hover between 3°C and 9°C.

In addition, a cold spell will hit Oujda-Angad, Driouch, El Hajeb, Khemisset, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Salah, Casablanca, Mohammadia, El Jadida, Benslimane, Nouaceur, Settat, Sidi Bennour, Mediouna, Berrechid, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rehamna, Safi, Marrakech, and Youssoufia.

Lower temperatures in these areas will fall between -1°C and 4°C.

As Morocco faces a series of harsh weather conditions, the DGM has urged residents to stay alert, particularly in regions vulnerable to extreme cold.

Recent weeks have seen a surge in orange-level weather alerts, as a high-pressure system blankets much of the country.

Meanwhile, as an upper-level atmospheric disturbance is bringing rain, snow, and colder temperatures, especially in the mountains, authorities advise caution in affected areas.
