Rabat – Morocco’s police in Marrakech arrested today a French citizen who was the subject of an international arrest order for his involvement in an attempted murder.
Police arrested the suspect on Monday morning based on information from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
The suspect was wanted under an Interpol Red Notice disseminated and issued based on an international arrest order from French judicial authorities.
Preliminary investigation shows that the suspect is now in custody pending extradition proceedings. Police will also notify the French security authorities about the arrest for extradition procedures.
The arrest is part of Morocco’s security efforts and cooperation with international partners against all forms of crimes, including terrorism.
Last year in May, Interpol expressed Morocco’s vital contribution to international security, as well as its participation in over a dozen projects under the auspices of the international police organization.
Morocco participated in around 20 significant security operations worldwide, Interpol cited, recalling the unanimous choice of the North African country to host the 93rd General Assembly of Interpol in 2025 in Marrakech.
Last year in November, Abdellatif Hammouchi, Head of Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST) received the Interpol flag, marking the handover to Morocco.
Hammouchi expressed appreciation to member states for unanimously selecting Morocco as the next host, stating the country’s commitment to contribute to addressing global security challenges.
